Publication: Lessons from the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers’ First Medicaid Shared Savings Performance Evaluation

In the December 2017 issue of Population Health Management, researchers from the Camden Coalition and UnitedHealthcare discuss the lessons that the Coalition, Rutgers Center for State Health Policy, and UnitedHealthcare learned while evaluating the Coalition’s Accountable Care Organization (ACO) performance in its first year. The study examined the complexities in creating evaluations for shared savings agreements, especially when including all the Managed Care Organization (MCO) spending in the evaluation model. Though the researchers expected to use methodology intended for a Medicare population, this evaluation taught them the importance of considering the unique population the Coalition serves and the interventions being tested.
