The Camden Health Database is a citywide database built by the Coalition and Camconnect, a local data sharing warehouse.  The database contains patient-level claims data from all of the local hospitals and emergency departments (EDs) and contains the name, address, date of birth, date of all ED and hospital visits, associated diagnosis codes, insurance status, as well as financial charges and receipts for every visit by a Camden resident over the last five years. Such discrete data allows targeted intervention efforts and provides a powerful tool to measure and track outcomes at a citywide, practice, agency, or hospital level. 

Recently acquired ER data from all three city hospitals has confirmed the overuse of emergency facilities for primary care related health conditions. Preliminary analysis has found:

68,911 total visits to Camden ERs (2003)

38,519 Camden residents had at least 1 visit (roughly 1 in 2 residents)

234 residents visited the ER 10 or more times

(accounted for 3,508 visits or 5% of the total)

The most frequent utilizers of ERs tend to be insured.
