Camden Health Database

A key asset for the Coalition’s work is the Camden Health Database, a citywide database that contains seven years of patient-level claims data from all of the local hospitals and emergency departments (EDs). While most public health data is limited to the county or municipal level, this database captures patient-level health data. This level of detail has allowed the Coalition to develop targeted interventions with discrete data to evaluate the impact of outreach and activity.

The database currently has records of over 600,000 visits to Camden emergency departments and hospitals by city residents over seven years and continues to receive regular updates from each hospital. Findings from the Camden Health Database highlight not only the amount of visits by Camden residents, but also the nature of these visits. The vast majority of these visits are for preventable conditions that could be treated by a primary care provider.
